Stress Zero Hosts Annual Meme Competition

Stress Zero is hosting its annual meme competition to celebrate their second Stress Awareness Week at SAS Pudong. Currently, there are fourteen memes that have been submitted to the Stress Zero Events team competing to become the best meme of this year. Students have submitted memes about a variety of topics – from IB and AP programs to teachers and students. Unlike last year’s meme competition, Stress Zero team has set up a board near to second floor English Hallway where students and teachers can vote for the best meme.

Students appear to be excited about the meme competition.

David Oliveira, a student in 11th grade, said, “I think it is pretty cool. There are many good memes up there. I think it is a good way to spirit up.”

Another student in 12th grade, Andrew Yuan, said the competition is“Absolutely funny. I want more”.

The Stress Zero team is quite satisfied with the positive outcome of meme competition and increasing participation of the students to meme competition.

Paul Kim, head of managing peer counseling in Stress Zero, believes “I was surprised by the turnout – how many people participated and looked at our memes. I was really excited when I saw a group of people standing at the board and laughing at it.” He further stated, “People enjoying the memes is what we were aiming for – providing the moment of stress relief in this stressful period.”

Kim said there were plans for future meme competition. He said “My sister is in middle school and she told me there are many ‘memers’ in middle school as well. In the second semester, we may host meme competition in middle school to create the bridge between middle and high school and form our presence in the middle school.”

The results of the meme competition will be announced on November 27th during the community meeting. Students may vote for their favorite meme until November 22nd. Two winners will be selected for the meme competition – one from the censored pool (posted in school) and one from the uncensored pool (posted on the only_at_sas Instagram).

Kim also sees an opportunity to showcase memes year-round, saying, “If students want, the executive team may consider creating a meme board in the school.”
