This Tuesday, January 22nd, in honor of SAS Pudong Season 2 APAC teams, Activities council hosted yet another Spirit Assembly. This year’s theme was “Birdbox”, based on a movie of the same name in which all must wear blindfolds to avoid suicide-inducing spirits. Accordingly, all the games in this Spirit Assembly involved blindfolding participants. Activities council prepared three different challenges that all the students can be engaged in.

The first challenge was an obstacle race. Participants were guided to go over several obstacles and return to the starting point with their partners standing on the opposite side. In this game, two 12th grade students, Max Wilmet and YunKei Chow, took first place. Although the team did not exactly follow the rules, ACTCO decreed them as the winning team. Juniors, freshmen, and sophomores each got second, third, and last place in this challenge.

The second challenge was a free shot competition. One student from each grade was selected as the class mascot and wore the costume for a particular character. The goal of this game was to make as many free shots as possible. However, with their eyes blindfolded, none of the contenders were able to make a single shot.

The highlight of this Spirit Assembly was the wrestling, balloon-popping battle. The participants were the same four students from the second challenge. With the powerful moves by Washington, 11th grade took the first place, followed by freshmen. 12th-grade participant Minjun Kim got omitted earlier than other participants.

There were varying reactions to this Spirit Assembly. A 12th-grade student, Jiwon Shin, said “The community meeting showed how powerful our community could be, but it sometimes became lagging and boring. I am not sure if it was the best use of my time, but it was okay”

A 10th-grade student, Ryan Kaiser, provided different reaction “Compared to last year, the spirit assembly today was extremely entertaining to watch and participate. I hope every year would be like this.”
