Earth Week Highlights

By Stephanie Zhang

From April 21st to 25th, the service clubs Eco Eagles and Roots & Shoots joined forces to celebrate Earth Week with a weeklong series of engaging, eco-conscious activities. Through creativity, collaboration, and plenty of green spirit, students were inspired to make more sustainable choices in their daily lives. Here’s a look at the highlights:

🍽 Monday: “Meatless Monday” & Earth Day Kahoot

-The cafeteria kicked off the week by offering entirely plant-based meals in place of meat. This year’s “Meatless Monday” was met with enthusiastic feedback—many students noted that the vegetarian alternatives were both flavorful and impressively realistic.

-During lunch, students participated in a lively Earth Day-themed Kahoot, packed with facts about environmental issues, conservation tips, and how small everyday actions can make a meaningful difference.

đź’§ Tuesday: Reusable Resource Incentives

– To promote the use of sustainable materials, students who brought reusable water bottles received a small refund when purchasing drinks at the cafeteria. This simple yet impactful initiative encouraged the community to reduce waste and adopt more environmentally friendly habits.

♻️ Wednesday: Trash-to-Trend Fashion Show

-In a creative twist on sustainability, students from each grade designed and modeled outfits made entirely from recycled materials. Strutting across the PAC stage like pros, participants wowed the audience with their ingenuity and flair. This fun-filled event showcased how fashion and eco-consciousness can go hand in hand—proof that sustainability can be stylish!

🧼 Thursday: DIY Soap Kitchen
On Thursday, students rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on in a DIY soap-making workshop using leftover kitchen scraps. This unique activity not only taught practical skills but also illustrated how food waste can be transformed into useful, eco-friendly products.

🪴 Friday: Succulent Planting with a Twist
To wrap up the week, students planted their own succulents using recycled plastic bottles as pots. This creative project encouraged an interest in gardening and demonstrated an innovative way to give non-biodegradable materials a second life.

Earth Week was more than just a celebration—it was a call to action. Thanks to the efforts of Eco Eagles, Roots & Shoots, and the enthusiastic participation of the student body, our community took meaningful steps toward a greener, more sustainable future.
